Side By Side Advocacy Visits The ‘Chook Pen’

CHOOK'S MORNING ROOST featured some very special guests from Side By Side Advocacy. Kim and Shua Hua flew into the 'Chook Pen' to discuss their 'Community for Everyone’ project, which matched volunteer social connectors with isolated individuals who shared similar interests. People with intellectual disabilities codesigned the project, which is taking place in Ryde, Parramatta, Lake Macquarie, and Newcastle. Check out the Side By Side website for more details.

2RRR Attends The Northern Centre’s Annual ‘Make A Stand Walk’

Last month, 2RRR participated in the annual ‘Make A Stand Walk,’ which launched the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The event, organised by The Northern Centre, took place at Macquarie University, where participants braved heavy rain to march along Waterloo Road to Elouera Reserve. Attendees heard from various guest speakers, including Penny Pedersen, City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown, and Superintendent Vince Hole. Additionally, Kylie Druett shared a moving personal story about the effects of domestic violence. The event concluded with a solemn ceremony honouring victims, as names were read aloud and attendees placed white roses in remembrance.

2RRR’s Night of Celebration – Over 40 Years Strong! Broadcasters, volunteers and stars past and present celebrated 40 years of broadcasting by local community radio station 2RRR 88.5FM at a special sold-out event at the North Ryde RSL with over 110 people attending. Featured guests included founding Director and former Chairman Chris Schofield, rock historian and music legend Glenn A Baker, CBAA CEO Jon Bisset, longest continuing broadcaster Margie Mason, amongst others.

Successful Ryde Mayoral Debate Hosted by 2RRR

Cost of living pressures, the future of the Ryde Civic Centre, housing supply and community facilities were among the issues canvassed during a lively debate for Ryde Mayoral candidates hosted by local community radio station 2RRR 88.5FM. With the people of Ryde due to vote in the first-ever directly elected mayoral contest, 2RRR hosted Trenton Brown (Liberal), Bernard Purcell (Labor) and Roy Maggio (Independent). The fourth candidate, Tina Kordrostami (Greens), was unavailable. 2RRR Chairperson Dino Mancini said the debate, moderated by Morning Mix host Natalie de Silver and regular guest Mark “Hendo” Henderson, was a victory for grassroots democracy. 2RRR Visits 2RDJ in Burwood

2RRR Chair Dino and Station Manager Natalie visited our friends at 2RDJ-FM 88.1 Community Radio last week. 2RDJ Chair Darren, aka 'Dazzles', provided a tour of the studios followed by a coffee, corn chips, and a chat. The discussion revolved around how our stations can possibly collaborate in the near future, how to generate more membership, community consultation and how to write successful grants. It's a part of 2RRR's mission to connect with other community radio stations to share ideas and keep community radio relevant!

Discussing Sustainability For The Community Broadcasting Sector

2RRR received a welcome visit last week from Lauren Ognenovski and Anna, who are drafting a paper on sustainability for the Community Broadcasting Sector for Communications Minister Michelle Rowland. 2RRR Chairperson Dino Mancini and Station Manager Natalie de Silver spoke about our station's critical initiatives, including our commitment to providing our licensed area with up-to-date local news and the recent success of 2RRR's youth and disability inclusion programs. In short, Community Broadcasting sets itself apart from other media sources by providing a platform for local participation, training and grassroots media.

Bennelong Candidate Launches “Unofficial” Election Campaign

The looming Federal election got off to an early local start when newly minted Liberal Party candidate for Bennelong, Scott Yung, launched his “unofficial” campaign.Mr Yung visited the 2RRR studios in Henley to introduce himself to the voting public.The election isn’t officially due until next year, but there has been heightened speculation that the prime minister may call for an early election later this year.
