The looming Federal election got off to an early local start when newly minted Liberal Party candidate for Bennelong, Scott Yung, launched his “unofficial” campaign.
Mr Yung visited the 2RRR studios in Henley to introduce himself to the voting public.
The election isn’t officially due until next year, but there has been heightened speculation that the prime minister may call for an early election later this year.
Mr Yung, 32, a Putney resident, told 2RRR’s “Morning Mix Live!” host Natalie de Silver and co-host Mark Henderson that the cost of living resonated as the number one local issue for voters.
“I’ve been out and about in the community, and people are doing it hard because of the rising cost of living, including housing. I am politically motivated to serve and do something to help people.”
Mr Yung will be up against the sitting MP, Labor’s Jerome Laxale, who holds Bennelong by a slender margin of just over one percent. A proposed redistribution that would abolish the seat of North Sydney is seen as slightly favouring the Liberal Party.
