We listen to and talk about the popular music and the artists of the 1940s, 50s and 60s & also re-discover forgotten artists and songs. The emphasis is mostly on the easy-listening music of the era before the arrival of rock and roll and which also continued beyond. Regular features may include tributes to particular artists, interview excerpts, songs from the 20s or 30s revived in the 40s, 50s or 60s, songs that topped the charts 60, 70 or 80 years ago – and more!
In our second hour, we usually take an in-depth look each week at a particular aspect of the music of the 1940s, 50s or 60s. Each “Special” may feature a specific artist, event, anniversary, Broadway show, Hollywood musical or other theme. It’s also an opportunity to take a detailed look at the history of a particular aspect of the era and re-discover forgotten artists and songs.
You can also hear a two hour repeat on Fridays at 2pm.

In the 1940s and 50s, there was an expression “Every Tom, Dick and Harry” referring to the prevalence of three boys’ names. And three of the most common surnames were Smith, Brown and Jones. Every one probably knew people having each of those surnames. And so it was with popular music of that era, both in song titles and artists themselves. This week in Brian’s first hour, it’s the turn of the Smiths, with Browns and Jones to follow over the next two weeks. Brian will also include a tribute to country singer Loretta Lynn who died last week.
