Independent Ryde City Councillor Roy Maggio joined “Hendo” on Monday Morning Matters on July 14, sharing his fresh perspective on the proposed new shopping centre and supermarket in Gladesville.

Cllr Maggio said there were several concerns about the plan, including access, traffic, and the impact on the local amenity.

“The issues you have in that precinct is diabolical. The traffic concerns are not going to service the residents,” said Cllr Maggio.

Cllr Maggio furthered his distress, “There will be some severe issues around traffic.”

With the proposed plans for a full-sized Woolworths on the corner of Westminster Road, Victoria Road, and Eltham Street, many citizens fear it will wreak havoc on our roads.

Cllr Maggio expressed that he is advocating for drivers to be able to turn right onto Westminster Road, as he believes it will ease traffic excessively. This idea has been elevated, and Cllr Maggio is awaiting a response.

As plans for our new shopping centre boom, discussions about new development are circulating across the road from Gladesville McDonald’s.

“And you have across the road…there is talk about the Sawdust now progressing,” said Cllr Maggio.

As the new Woolworths will soon be in production in Gladesville, according to Cllr Maggio, Boronia Park’s Woolworths is set to close shortly.

“That’s the reason Woolworths have come across and bought this site. There won’t be a Woolworths at Boronia Park.”

As per our discussion, it is understood that a childcare centre, retail, and more apartments will be built in replacement of the local grocery shop.
